Frankly, I haven't written this book. Hundreds of our leading scientists, all over the world,
wrote this book over the last 20 years. What makes this book really special is it concentrates
on what they have found out in the last 5 years or so. This book brings you the latest published
research.
What I have done is to wade through thousands and thousands of research studies - over the last
5 years the folates have been the most researched of any of the vitamins. It was a daunting
task but quite rewarding because this research has found many ways that the folates
benefit our health, well-being, and longevity.
I am merely reporting, summarizing, simplifying, and generally
standing on the shoulders of these giants of the research world. If I have done my job well, I
will have clearly and simply explained to the average reader what these discoveries are, and what
they mean to your health and longevity.
All research is important, but a lot of it consists of a series of quite obscure
steps that eventually demonstrate some important benefit of the folates. My job has been to
glean the still-huge number of studies that are the culmination of this research.
Finding the studies that are obvious, compelling, and which clearly demonstrate how
the folates affect our lives.
A benefit of the folates does not have to be demonstrated beyond all doubt to be included
in this book. I will tell you about any uncertainty, but most importantly, I will tell you.
For example, there are a number of studies in this book that question the accepted levels
of folic sufficiency - how much really is enough? How many of us are deficient? This book cities
study after study that finds a general deficiency in the folate levels in our bodies, and
strives to come up with the best strategies to restore a healthy balance.
The medical and nutritional establishment are the stewards of our health and I for one am
grateful for all the good they do, but they have self-imposed limitations. They do not
accept medical or nutritional claims until they are proven beyond all reasonable doubt.
They are very concerned with toxicology of nutrients. While generally this is
commendable, in this instance we are talking about folic acid, for which toxicity has never been
established! Research science is finding new benefits of folate seemingly every month. There are
some possible dangers, many pretty clear benefits, and this book tries to explain all of this in
language you can understand.
It is hard to find anything bad about the folates - the section of the book on Conditions/Exacerbations
of Excess Folate is very
small indeed. The goal of this book is to point out the likely extent of folate deficiency, the
many likely benefits of the folates, the many diseases and other conditions that are likely
a result of folate deficiency, the many parts of our body that most likely suffer from not enough
folate, and the secondary effects of folate deficiency through such avenues as
elevated homocysteine and cell mutations.
You do not have to take my word for anything in this book. Everything in this book has at
least one citation - a link to the peer-review scientific research behind it. I have merely
re-worded, explained, and reported this research. I believe you will find this book interesting, edifying,
and clearly educational. If this book fails you, return it and I will gladly refund your money.
