Gravity

Gravity is that mysterious force

that comes with planetary size

Constantly pins us to our earth

paradoxically with the lightest

of light pressure accumulated

from our gaseous atmosphere

Miles thick, held to earth so tightly,

results in 14.9 pounds per square inch

of unrelenting pressure on our bodies

Relentless timeless unforgiving force

slowly distorts our physiognomy

Always trying to drag us down flat

Driving down our Sherwood Road

there is this bump in the pavement

that lifts my truck and gives

my stomach that fluttery sense

of slightly neutralizing gravity

I accelerate for this experience

Hungering for any sense of

freedom from gravity’s pull
